Silam Revisited

Flabellina_1 Yeah, visited silam again. Viz was affected by the recent rain but nonetheless critters galore to be seen every where. The trip was mostly concentrated on improving photographric skills.

Whale Shark N Mola Mola in SIpadan???!!!

Damn… at a recent Dive trip Allister spotted a whale shark. If you think that was great. Wait til you hear this. He saw a mola mola as well. I’m Green with envy. check out his blog http://www.allisterlee.blogspot.com/

Silam Dive Rocks

Silam_jetty_1The weather was great. Woke up at 6.30am, prepared all my gear for the dive to come. Steven picked us up, me and Joe, at Andrew’s, went off for quick breakfast of “nasi kuning”and “ayam masak merah”. Then off we went to Silam, just of the coast of LD, on a privately owned beach. After gearing up, swam out to sea, the rest was just pure naturalist heaven. Macrolife was abundant, from your common nudi to the ever hard to find Stimpson’s snapping shrimp.

The reef, reminisce of Sipadan drop off minus the strong current and the bottomless sandy bottom, was almost as breath taking. Steven, Chris and Sunny, our dive guides, just kept showing us stuff after stuff. I just kept snapping away though was a bit concern whether my battery would be able to sustain for the duration of the dive. Nevertheless my Canon IXUS 900TI lived up to its expectation.

One thing that caught my attention was the abundance of cardinal fishes around the shallow coral area. It was amazing to them all living in perfect harmony with each other, from you coral cardinals to the ever sought after pajama cardinals of underwater photography.

Anyway, somewhere along our third dive, our morning breakfast decided to catch up on us, I started burping underwater getting a bad case of heart burn at the end of the dive. While Joe on the other hand, started puking underwater, it was a sight to behold as Joe became the attraction of many fishes all looking for a free lunch. It was funny!!!!

All in all, it was a worth all the anticipation. One thing for sure, I’ll definitely be coming back again. This place is highly recommended for novices to all you hardcore underwater breathing maniacs out there. It’s a good place to start nurturing your underwater photography skills. This is my new backyard. This is where I’ll come time and time again just be away from it all.

Silam Dive Lahad Datu

So bored at work. My gills are drying up. The solution: Dive. This weekend am planning to dive at Silam, Lahad Datu. Its off the beaten track, so you won’t find it on any dive map in Sabah. Some dive buddies of mine have been surveying the area. Boasts wonderful macro life. They’ve even sighted the wonderful beautiful flamboyant cuttlefish. All in all I’m just excited to wet my sea lungs again. Just can’t stop thinking ’bout all the wonderful things I’ll be able to snap……mmmm for now the anticipation is just so so so…. can’t really find the words to describe. Will tell more……..

Roach Reef Tawau Trip

Roach Reef Trip, 2 - 3 March 2007,

Dive season kicking off to a great start.  This is my second trip to roach reef. This time was fantastic. Almost got lost again at baracuda sanctuary. Last trip got left alone here, had to make my own safety ascend all because of a stupid Flounder. Got to try out my Cannon IXUS 900TI. It’s a damn great cam. Dive Buddies, Ian, Shima, Steven, Alister and Deidre.
